01 · Opening
Over the past year, we’ve been quietly reshaping eGRIST into something new - Galea. This transition represents more than a new name: it reflects our new team, renewed focus, and commitment to developing tools that make mental-health insights more accessible, intuitive, and effective.
As part of this next step, the assessment tool will be offline on Sunday 16 November 2025, from 18:00 to 06:00 (GMT) while we implement key updates to the Galea platform. This doesn’t require any action on your part, but please share this notice with any other users in your organisation.
Below, you’ll find details about what’s changing - and a glimpse of what’s ahead.
02 · What we’re focusing on
When you log in, you’ll notice Galea has a cleaner and refreshed look.
We’ve made it easier to choose the areas of concern you want to focus on and we’ve reduced the number of assessment types accordingly.
The screening version is now quicker to complete because you don't have to find the ones you need to answer amongst all the others. If you’d like to explore more areas, you can easily switch between assessment types at any time by returning to the main launch page.
03 · Department spotlight
We know that “risk assessment” was never the best description of what Galea really did. Risk evaluation involves predicting the likelihood and impact of an event - something that’s extremely difficult to do.
In practice, users were recording their level of concern about certain issues (for example, suicide), not predicting when something might occur.
Galea now reflects this reality. We’ve replaced “risks” with areas of concern, which brings Galea in line with the latest NICE guidance on risk assessment.
We’ll be sharing more details and examples about this shift over the coming weeks.
04 · Notice
As part of this next step, the assessment tool will be offline on Sunday 16 November 2025, from 18:00 to 06:00 (GMT) while we implement key updates to the platform.
05 · What's next?
This update marks an exciting milestone in Galea’s evolution, and we’re working on so much more. The next major step will allow assessors to access the wisdom of their fellow mental-health practitioners instantly. Their collective wisdom is held in the 250,000 GRiST assessments carried out by more than 3,000 practitioners.
After each new assessment, this wisdom will check whether the assessor's concerns align with what Galea's collective expertise would expect. If not, Galea will explore the deviation, record reasons for them if appropriate, and help make sure the assessor is happy that everything has been properly covered.
The same collective expertise will help train new practitioners, support individuals using self-assessment tools, and guide future assessments to focus on the most relevant information.
Rest assured that Galea only advises, using clear and comprehensive explanations, which assessors can heed or not, depending on what they think is best. This is just the start of Galea’s journey toward making mental health care more accessible, intuitive, and effective
06 · Stay in touch
At Galea, we’re building with, not just for, our users. As we grow, we want to hear from you: what features would make your work easier, what improvements you’d value most, and how we can best support you and those you serve.
Your insights help us shape Galea into the platform it’s meant to be: one that empowers every clinician, organisation, and individual to deliver effective mental health care.
You can reach us via email at info@galea.care. We’d love to book a meeting with you to discuss any feedback or what you’d like to see moving forwards.
Many thanks,
